the 150th Anniversary year of the Stralsund Museum of Cultural History on 17 July (18 clock) is another highlight of the exhibition opened. This time the acquisitions of the museum first 50 years for the Visual Arts in focus.
In Catherine's monastery until the 18th October, a selection of graphics, paintings and medieval art image presented, which gives an insight into the collection activity Rudolf Baier, a former museum director, and his contemporaries with whom he the former Provinzialmuseum für Neuvorpommern und Rügen ins Leben rief. So werden grafische Bestände aus der Löwenschen Sammlung, die die Stadt dem Museum in seinem Entstehungsjahr übereignete ebenso zu sehen sein, wie Arbeiten namhafter Künstler die durch Ankauf oder private Schenkung in die junge Institution gelangten. Neben J. Ph. Hackert und F. Preller d. Ä. dürfen sich die Besucher auch auf Werke aus dem 17. und 18. Jh. von C. A. Menzel, J. F. Rosmäsler, B. A. Duncker, F. Grebe und W. Titel freuen. Zu den frühesten Erwerbungen des Museums gehören ebenso ein Flügelretabel aus Kröslin ( Ende 15. Century), two assistant medieval oak characters, Mary and John as the right and left of the cross standing figures of a crucifixion group, and a Flügelretabel from Vaas and three figures (St. Christopher, St. Job, St. John the Baptist) from John the shrine of St. Nicholas, which was bought in 1864 for the collection of Rudolf Baier. Many of the shown in the special exhibits are accessible to visitors for the first time and come to their presentation again to the magazine. So the only possibility is to take these rarely seen treasures in the three-month exhibition in appearances.
